All wood types contain organic acids varying in amount between species, Accoya has a similar level to oak and western cedar which, in moist conditions, may accelerate water-induced corrosion in metals. So if you’re using Accoya to manufacture windows and doors, it’s essential to understand what hardware is recommended.

Accoya states that Stainless Steel would be preferred when possible. However the industry standard is that most window espagnolette bolts and multi-point door locks are zinc coated mild steel, with some including brass or stainless steel face plates. Locks are also available with special coatings to help with corrosion resistance. We have recommended the below a Stainless Steel and coated products for use with Accoya windows and doors.
COATED OPTION
Roto hardware is coated as standard with the best-in-class NanoSil Level 6 surface protection. The micro crystalline structure is designed to provide protection to parts such as rivets and hinge components as well as flat surfaces. This market-leading coating copes with extreme fluctuations in temperature and humidity easily exceeding all current UK corrosion resistance criteria.

VIPER MULTI-POINT DOOR LOCK FOR FRONT ENTRANCE AND FRENCH DOORS

HINGES & FIXINGS
We would recommend our Yale friction hinges for Accoya windows as they are made from ferritic stainless steel. We can also supply austenitic grade stainless steel friction hinges for extra protection. For fixing friction hinges we also advise using our stainless steel screws which were specifically designed for this task. Which is ideal for properties in coastal locations.
Our door hinge recommendation would be our SOX Atom Stainless Steel hinges as they have an extra coating and has passed a UKAS approved 240 hour salt spray test.

OTHER CONSIDERATIONS & RECOMMENDATIONS
Even when using stainless steel / corrosion resistant locks or locks with Roto’s Nansil finish the following precautions should be taken and all are based on creating a barrier between metal and the wood.
