Staff and Parting Beads

Staff and parting beads are effective for draught-proofing and weather-sealing sliding sash windows, and are essential components of sash hardware. Traditionally made from timber, parting beads are placed between the sashes and the staff bead. We offer these in Primed Timber, QWood, or Plastic, with options for pre-inserted fir piles or carriers for weather seals. If you need different sizes or styles, please contact our sales team for assistance. What is a staff bead used for?

A staff bead is the internal bead that sits inside the inner frame of the sash box. Its main function is to hold sashes in place for a sash window. There's also a seal channel where you can insert your own draughtseals, although some staff beads come with pre-inserted options for better draught proofing and weather sealing.

What is a parting bead on a sash window?

The parting bead is a vertical seal installed between the upper and lower sashes, providing a pathway for the sashes to slide alongside each other.
