Sash Window Restrictors & Security

The SDH range of Sash Window Restrictors have been designed with safety and security as their primary functions. These ranges of restrictors allow your sash window to be vented but not compromised on security. The restrictor element allows the sashes to be open only to a predetermined opening that will prevent the risk of children and the infirm from falling out of an open window. Our range of tried and tested sash window restrictors offers a safety and security solution in one with no compromise on keeping the aesthetic of your sash window whilst keeping your home ventilated and safe. What are Sash Window Restrictors?

Sash window restrictors are safety devices that limit how far sash windows can open. They primarily serve to prevent accidental falls, making them particularly beneficial for homes with children or pets. Additionally, they enhance security by reducing the risk of unauthorised entry through partially open windows. These restrictors also allow for controlled ventilation, enabling fresh air while maintaining safety.

Where Should I Fit a Sash Window Restrictor?

Sash window restrictors are generally installed 100mm above the mid rail, allowing the window to open only 100mm. This height is the industry standard, as it is believed that a baby would not be able to fit through an opening of this size and fall out of the window. For customers without children who are more focused on security, we recommend positioning the restrictors directly above the mid rail. This placement ensures that if an intruder attempts to force open the bottom sash with a crowbar, the restrictors will prevent any further movement. Some sash stops include two inserts which allows for both options.

What are Sash Window Striker plates?

Sash Window Striker Plates are designed to prevent damage to the sash when used with sash stops. These plates are installed on the top of the lower sash, where the window comes into contact with the sash stops. Not only do they provide a stylish look, but they also offer practical protection for your sash windows, helping to prevent long-term damage. Additionally, striker plates are inexpensive and easy to replace, making them a cost-effective way to care for your sash windows.

Should I Use a Key or Keyless Sash Restrictor?

When deciding between a key or keyless sash restrictor, consider your security needs and convenience. Keyed restrictors provide an added layer of security, making them ideal for homes that require higher protection against unauthorised access. In contrast, keyless restrictors offer ease of use, allowing you to open and close the window without needing a key, which is convenient for everyday use. If multiple users, such as family members or caregivers, need access to the windows, a keyless option may be more practical. Additionally, keyless restrictors typically require less maintenance since you won’t have to worry about losing keys or needing duplicates. Replacement / Spare keys are available for all our Sash Restrictors.
