Changing your door lock cylinder can be easy, and it takes less than 5 minutes! Welcome to our short step-by-step guide to change a door lock cylinder. It is a quick and easy job that won't just save you time but also a considerable amount of money.
Tools Required:
Start by opening the door and inserting the key into the cylinder. Between the door handle and level with the cylinder, you'll find a screw. Carefully remove this screw and remember to keep it in a safe place. Once unscrewed, gently pull the cylinder out of the door.
After removing the cylinder, use your ruler to measure points A and B on the provided diagram.
When selecting a replacement cylinder, it's important to consider industry standards for windows and doors, which can be found in our standards overview. Choose a cylinder that matches the measurements and shape of the existing one. Explore our wide range of cylinders for options. Note that opting for a 3-star cylinder can significantly enhance security and meet TS007 standards for the handle and cylinder section of the door. You can follow our handy video guide for measuring a door cylinder.
Open the door and insert the key into the old cylinder to unscrew and remove it. Insert the key into the new cylinder. For high-security cylinders, ensure that the sacrificial break point groove is closer to the exterior side of the door. Slide the new cylinder into place and secure it with the screw. You may need to adjust the alignment of the screw holes. Test the door and cylinder to ensure they function correctly. A smooth turn of the key is all it takes to ensure your home is secure. You’re good to go!
