What is the Simplex Window System?

The Simplex Window System is a design of Sash Window primarily used in Scotland. This design is identical to a standard Sliding Sash window but has additional hardware to allow the bottom Sash to be swung inwards to allow for easy egress and cleaning.

How do I start the fitting process for the Simplex Window System?

Begin by lifting the bottom sash window slightly (4 to 5 inches). Cut the Staff Bead (Baton Rod in Scotland) 3 inches above the base and 6 inches above the height of the bottom sash when it's in the closed position. Remove this cut section to proceed.

How do I install the Baton Rod Screw?

After removing the cut section of the Staff Bead, fit the Baton Rod Screw through the Staff Bead into the wood behind it. If you want to remove the Staff Bead completely, fit two Baton Rod Screws at the top and bottom.

How can I make the Staff Bead swing open?

The cut section of staff bead can be designed either to be detached from the window or hinged. To hinge the Staff Bead, fit one Baton Rod Screw at the bottom and a Baton Rod Hinge at the top.

Where do I install the Simplex Hinges?

Install the bottom Hinge 5 to 6 inches from the base of the bottom sash (when closed) and the top Hinge 3 inches from the top of the bottom sash (when closed).

Where do I fit the Simplex Hinge Screws?

Fix the Simplex Hinge locating screws to the face of the bottom sash so that they fit into the slotted part of both opened Hinges simultaneously, distributing the window's weight over the two Hinges. Ensure the locating screw position allows the bottom sash to swing open without hitting the remaining 3 inches of Staff Bead.

How do I clean a Simplex Sash Window?

The lower sash swings inward on Simplex hinges, allowing its exterior surface to be cleaned. Once the lower sash is swung in, the top sash is lowered to make its entire interior surface accessible. The top sash is then repositioned so the lower part of its exterior surface can be cleaned, and then fully lowered to clean the remaining upper part of its exterior surface.
