Sash window restrictors are safety devices that limit how far sash windows can open. They primarily serve to prevent accidental falls, making them particularly beneficial for homes with children or pets. Additionally, they enhance security by reducing the risk of unauthorised entry through partially open windows. These restrictors also allow for controlled ventilation, enabling fresh air while maintaining safety.
Sash window restrictors are generally installed 100mm above the mid rail, allowing the window to open only 100mm. This height is the industry standard, as it is believed that a baby would not be able to fit through an opening of this size and fall out of the window. For customers without children who are more focused on security, we recommend positioning the restrictors directly above the mid rail. This placement ensures that if an intruder attempts to force open the bottom sash with a crowbar, the restrictors will prevent any further movement. Some sash stops include two inserts which allows for both options.
Sash Window Striker Plates are designed to prevent damage to the sash when used with sash stops. These plates are installed on the top of the lower sash, where the window comes into contact with the sash stops. Not only do they provide a stylish look, but they also offer practical protection for your sash windows, helping to prevent long-term damage. Additionally, striker plates are inexpensive and easy to replace, making them a cost-effective way to care for your sash windows.
When deciding between a key or keyless sash restrictor, consider your security needs and convenience. Keyed restrictors provide an added layer of security, making them ideal for homes that require higher protection against unauthorised access. In contrast, keyless restrictors offer ease of use, allowing you to open and close the window without needing a key, which is convenient for everyday use. If multiple users, such as family members or caregivers, need access to the windows, a keyless option may be more practical. Additionally, keyless restrictors typically require less maintenance since you won’t have to worry about losing keys or needing duplicates. Replacement / Spare keys are available for all our Sash Restrictors.
